Air N.Z. staff waiting

PA Auckland Air New Zealand staff may have to wait weeks, possibly months, before they discover if they will be made redundant. The airline announced today that it would be some time before the redundancies could be identified—laying to rest rumours of mass layoffs on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, representatives of staff and union groups will be told of the employee levels required for the recovery programme. The areas where the cuts will be made would be identified then but there would be no mass lay-offs, said the chief executive, Mr Norman Geary.

A memo to staff from him said that, before people were made redundant, there was a set process to go through, and that included the establishment of a redundancy agreement.
