Shipping back to normal
Shipping movements began at Lyttelton late'yesterday morning when the port’s five Harbour Board pilots returned to work. The pilots did not return 'to work until 11.30 a.m. when they received confirmation from the Merchant Services Guild that their suspension notices, issued last Friday, had been lifted. This was in spite of an announcement from the Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger) that the suspension notices would be lifted from midnight on Wednesday. The pilots had a busy day yesterday, bringing in three of the four ships which have had to queue at Lyttelton heads because of the dispute. They were the Austral Pioneer, the Allied Pioneer, and the Lake Eyre. Another vessel at the heads, the New Zealand Star, will be brought in today.
