Death after Tararua shooting

PA Masterton A Wairarapa man who was shot in the head during a deerstalking trip in the Tararua Ranges on Saturday, died in Wellington Hospital on Monday night. He was Alister Stewart Wallace, aged 35, a farm manager, of Mangatarere Valley, near Carterton.

He was with a companion, Mr Simon Robertson, of Carterton, when the shooting occurred.

Mr Wallace was brought out of the ranges about 6 p.m. on Saturday by helicopter and was transferred by air from Masterton to Wellington Hospital later the same night. Senior-Sergeant H. J. Ireland, of Masterton. said that the police did not know how Mr Wallace was wounded.
