Imperial Delhi
George V, King of England and Emperor of India, announced in 1911 that- the Indian capital would be moved from Calcutta.. An entirely new imperial 'city': would be built, a monpment to British rule. Building was eventually completed in 1931, less than 20 years before British rule came to an end. The building of imperial Delhi has been chronicled in a sumptuously illustrated book by Canadian-born his-
torian, Robert'Grant Irving; called “Indian Summer.” It is suggested to the author on the 8.8. C. books programme on the radio Concert Programme at 7 p.ni., that the building of imperial Delhi was a shamefully chauvinistic venture.
