Tax solution sought
PA Dunedin Employers hoped that the next round of wage-tax trade-off talks with the Federation of Labour and the Combined State' Unions on April 26 would see a settlement because they did not want a wages-prices freeze imposed by the Government, the president of the Employers’ Federation, Mr S. W. B. Duncan, has said. “The concern that I have is the attitude altogether of the F.O.L: and the C.S.U.,’’ he said. “I think that the
tax trade-off is desirable as a. way of controlling inflation, but I really do not understand why the unions are so much against trying it.” Mr Duncan said he believed the unions felt the Government’s desire for a trade-off meant there was no longer free.wage bargaining. “I do not know whether we can come together on this,” he said. “I only hope we can. The concern that I ;have is what may be imposed on us if we cannot get sorrte solution.” '
