Coutts leads yachting
NZPA . London Auckland’s Russell Coutts is leading. the 240 yachtsmen seeking qualification for the World Laser Championships as the qualifying rounds enter their final stage off Alghero, Sardinia.
Light and shifting winds again delayed proceedings oyer the week-end but in the fourth of his five qualifying races, Coutts finished second to become the top over-all
yachtsman of the three 80yacht groups. Two of the eight-man New Zealand contingent, John Cutler (Auckland), and Phil Penney (Christchurch) are certain qualifiers after four races.
Kevin Jamie (Christchurch) and Phillip Douglas (Auckland) both require good placings in their final races today to make it into the finals which will be raced from tomorrow to Saturday.
