Shearer’s first U.S. win
NZPA-Reuter Tellahassee, Florida Australia’s Bob Shearer sank a 50-foot putt for an eagle three on the par-five 17th hole to win the 1982 Tallahesse Open yesterday. Shearer.overcame a fourshot deficit with his blazing 31 on the back nine, overtaking the third-round leader, Bob Byman, who faded to a tie for the ninth place with a round of 74, and ing Denis Watson and rookie
Hal Sutton, who wound up sharing second place on a 15-under-par 273. Shearer’s final-round 66 left him with a winning total of 272 — 16 under par — and his first U.S. title as well as a cheque for SUSIB.OOO (sAustl7,ooo), Shearer won his last two starts in New Zealand a month ago to capture the Australia Order of Merit, but had gone winless on the P.G.A. tour since earning his card in 1976.
