Open day for hostels
New Zealand youth hostels will hold an open day on May 2 to mark the founding of the youth hostels movement by a German schoolteacher, Richard Schirrmann, 50 years ago. The open day will be world-wide but coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the Youth Hostels Association of New Zealand. The first youth hostel association branch was formed in New Zealand in 1932.
