General forecast Continuing fine over the North Island and in Buller, Nelson and Marlborough, apart from cloudy areas in western districts. Moderate winds, westerly in most areas, but northerly through Cook Strait. Mild in the afternoon. Over the remainder of the South Island cloudy and cool with periods of rain in Fiordland and South Westland, spreading slowly north with some scattered falls in Canterbury, Otago and Southland. District forecasts: Canterbury: Variable skies: rain in the western ranges, with scattered light falls reaching the coast at times: mild this afternoon. Marlborough: Fine with light

winds apart from moderate northerlies about the sounds; cold tonight with inland frosts, but mild this afternoon. Buller: Cloudy and cool with moderate northerlies predominating. Nelson: Fine apart from some areas of morning fog and inland frosts, but mild in the afternoon; light winds. Westland: Moderate variable winds tending to the south later today; overcast and cool with periods of rain.. Fiordland: Mainly cool southerlies with periods of rain easing from the south.
