Soccer player injured
A mid-fielder, Stuart Chalmers, may be out for a week with injury after Christchurch Mogal United’s Rothmans soccer league match in Wellington yesterday. Chalmers went off the field five minutes early in yesterday’s match against Wellington Diamond United with what is thought to be an aggravation of a rib injury he suffered last week. The 21-year-old student went to hospital immediately after arriving home with the Christchurch team yesterday.
Without having heard further news on the exact nature of the injury, the assistant coach, Terry Mann, thought it unlikely Chalmers would be training this week. "Stuart might have just tom a muscle in his chest, it is hard to say at this stage, but he was in a lot of pain,” Mr Mann said. United’s English-lmport defender, Mark McCarrick, was also unlikely to be at full fitness this week after badly twisting his ankle, he said.
