Tourism
Sir, —I find myself in complete agreement with your editorial, “Tourism set-backs" (April 13). Money has to be spent on market research and promotion and there, are alarming signs that too little is being spent. Government spending must be increased en if it is against the tide of overall Government financial policy. It is an investment. Private sector spending and funding of regional promotion organisations must also be increased as part of the nationwide research and promotion effort. Locally, the Canterbury Promotion Council is taking part in three significant undertakings over the next three months, all of which should significantly advance tourism growth: (1) A promotion in Tasmania as part of a South Island promotion. (2) A Canterbury tourism forum to examine the development of tourism in Canterbury. (3) Hosting 1200 at the Australian Federation of Travel Agents Convention in Christchurch on July 4-10. And all of this on a shoe-string budget!Yours, etc., BRUCE R. DUNSTAN, Executive Officer,
Canterbury Promotion . Council. April 15, 1982.
