Senior police promoted
PA Wellington Three senior staff members at Police National Headquarters have been promoted to deputy assistant commissioner. The, man in charge of police' activity after the Mount Erebus aircrash disaster. Mr B. R. Davies, has been promoted from the rank of chief superintendent. Mr Davies is the head of development and support at headquarters, in charge of management services, support services and public affairs. He received the 0.8. E. in the New Year Honours List in recognition of his work at Mount Erebus. The head of criminal investigations. Mr M. T. Churches, has been promoted from detective chief superintendent. He has had extensive experience in the field of armed offenders work and drug enforcement. In 1969 he studied drugenforcement work with the
F B I. and police administration at- Michigan State University. Last year he attended a senior command course at Bramhill, England. Mr S. A. Rusbatch. formerly a chief superintendent. is head of administration and responsible for finance, supply, civilian staff, and industrial services. He has worked as western coastal commander at Porirua and was commandant at the Trentham Police College. There are now six deputy assistant commissioners. The Commissioner of Police. Mr R. J. Walton, announced the promotions during the Police Executive Conference, held quarterly and attended by the 16 district commanders throughout New Zealand. The three-day conference considers the adequacy of existing police policy and possible new policies. The commanders also report to headquarters staff on conditions in their districts.
