Contractor killed
PA Napier A Taupo bush contractor was killed on Wednesday when a dead tree fell on him while he was working alone in the Waimihea forest, 20 kilometres north of Iwatahi. He was Lawrence Edward Honey, aged 25. The Taupo police said the accident happened about 8 a.m. It appeared two windfall trees had; rolled against a dead tree Which had toppled on to Mr Honey. He was found by his father, a bush Contractor, but was dead by the time a doctor arrived. ■■■: j Mr Honey 1 : held several New Zealand tree-felling records and had only returned on Wednesday morning from the Auckland Easter Show, where he set further records in the Win and Ilin chops. He was due to defend his title in the Aicken Masters competition at Auckland on Sunday, having .held the premier title for the last three years.
