Concern about marae
The Eyre County Council is worried about the state of the buildings on the Seven Canoes marae on the west bank of the Waimakariri River. The marae leases land from the North Canterbury Catchment Board, but the council is responsible for any buildings. It has asked its works administrator, Mr P. Bradley, and the health inspector, Mr R. G. Norris, to inspect the buildings and report to the May council meeting. The council has deferred a request by Mrs Te Puke Watson to put up a sign to the marae on the Main South Road. Mrs Te Puke Watson is living permanently at the marae.
