Sir,—What monumental hypocrisy is displayed by the Prime Minister in ordering the Argentinian Ambassador to leave this country: Mr Muldoon terms the Falklands invasion “an act of naked aggression ...
that cannot be tolerated in today’s world.” For many decades, South Africa has illegally andoften brutally occupied Namibia in direct contravention ■ of United Nations edicts. More recently, there have been numerous well-docu-mented territorial violations of Angola and Mozambique by South Africa. Yet, despite many calls for his removal, the South African Consul-General has never been told to leave. By all means we should vigorously protest against this invasion. But let us acknowledge that South Africa’s claim to Namibia is just as spurious as Argentina’s claim to the Falklands. Let us have some more consistency in our international relations—Yours, etc., R.
