Games trial for boxers
PA Wellington The Porirua heavyweight. Michael Kenny survived’a compulsory first round count of eight, and started his senior career on a winning note at the Commonwealth and Oceania Games boxing trials in Wellington yesterday. Kenny, aged 17, received the early fright from the mature Riverside fighter, Edward Nansen. Though clearly jolted by the early ordeal the towering, longlegged Kenny produced some solid counter and combination punching to emerge a unanimous points victor over an opponent conceding a height and reach advantage. After trials in Timaru on April 24. a full New Zealand team is expected to be named for the Oceania Games in Auckland in late May.
