Toastmistress convention
A Waimate woman, Mrs Pillie Parker, won the Canterbury speech contest at the Canterbury convention of toastmistress clubs which attracted 130 women to Geraldine on Saturday. A Christchurch woman, Mrs Norma Powell, was second and a Temuka woman, Mrs Carol Brown, third.
The speech trophy, and air tickets to take part in the New Zealand final in Wellington, were presented by the New Zealand regional president, Mrs Sherryl Wilson.
Area officers for the coming year are: President, Mrs Alma Blake; vice-presidents Mesdames Raewyn Cain and Audrey Ramsay; secretary, Mrs Marjorie Paterson; treasurer, Mrs Heather Ponder.
