Report on Kurow shooting received

PA Wellington Police Headquarters has received the report on the shooting of a burglary suspect by a policeman at Kurow in North Otago on March 4. Deputy Commissioner K. O. Thompson said that the file, prepared by Detective Chief Inspector E. T. Mitten, was now being studied to determine if any offences were disclosed and what, if any, further action might be necessary.

“Depending on the results of tests on the firearm, which are still awaited, the file will probably be referred to the Crown Law Office,” said Mr Thompson. He hoped a decision could be made, by the end of next week.

Mr Thompson said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr R. J. Walton, had made it clear last week that the public would be told the relevant facts in the matter.
