Car-seat hire scheme popular
With waiting lists of- 200 and bookings being made as much as six months in advance, the Royal Plunket Society’s scheme to rent carsafety seats is off to a good start.
Parents hiring children’s car seats from the society can make a considerable saving. New seats for infants under six months sell for about $65, and those for older children about $lOO. The organiser of the scheme, Mrs Faith McGahey, said that the demand had been “fantastic.” All 15 of the society’s infant seats had been hired, and all 22 of its bigger seats had either been hired or were awaiting collection.
With a further 100 seats on order,, and expected next week, the society was struggling to cope with the de-
mand. Any donations would be appreciated. “We are doing our best to encourage mothers to buy child seats because they get quite a few years use out of those,” Mrs McGahey said.
