Australian cheese quota up
NZPA staff correspondent Sydney New Zealand will be able to increase cheese exports to Australia 10 per cent this year. The chairman of the Australian Dairy Corporation, Mr Malcolm Vawser, said from Melbourne that because under the "gentlemen’s agreement” New Zealand cheese exports to Australia were linked to the percentage growth in the market, an. extra 500 tonnes of cheese could be sent here.
In 1981 5000 tonnes of New Zealand cheese, 1220 tonnes of it Cheddar cheese under quota arrangements, was sold in Australia.
However, in the last year growth in the market at 10 per cent was the best yet so an extra 500 tonnes of noncheddar cheese could be sent in 1982. he said.
