Commonwealth Games
Sir,—By now the New Zealand people will have heard of the Australian Labour Party's support of a ban on Kiwi participation in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. I would like to assure you all that the vast and overwhelming majority of Australians do not share this viewpoint and we are deeply saddened by what is nothing more than sanctimonious, “holier than thou” treachery. Having regard to the murder, double dealing and inter-tribal massacres that are endemic in many African nations it is the grossest hypocrisy on their part to indict New Zealand on any count. I have written to the Leader of the Labour Party expressing my horror at his supine and unrealistic attitude.—Yours, etc.,
E. WOODHAM-CLUFF, Brisbane. March 5, 1982.
