Blue Rula favoured for Napier Park
Special correspondent ' Wellington The durable Blue Rula found the front-running tactics of Charlie too strong at Hastings on the first day, but he could turn the tables when he runs in the Napier Park Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double there today. Blue Rula’s form all along has been sound. He was also second in the. White Horse Stakes at Te Rapa'. Charlie, up two kilos to 53.5 for Saturday’s win, must take beating again. Racing near the rear did not help Saunter’s chance on Saturday. She did well to get third and looks certain to play a leading role again. Were ‘N’ Business has not raced since winning a double at Poverty Bay. He looks a big chance.
Pia Roona, which has won three races at Hastings, could extend that record in the McWilliams Wines Handicap, the second leg of the double. Last week Pia Roona bolted in by two and a half lengths over 1200 metres. Though the distance today is 1400 m it should present the three-year-old with few problems. Diplomante, at the top of the handicap, plugged away to get fourth on Saturday. Al Donte’s form continues to be sound and Giovanni ran two fair races at Wairoa. If there is to be an upset it could come from Asheen, a speedy Levin mare which will be resuming after a short break.
