Taxation
Sir,—Thank you for the dispassionate objectivity of yesterday’s leading article (“The Press,” March 6). You unerringly put your finger on the throbbing pulse of the matter, when you wrote “The Government was still elected to govern, to make decisions ... in the best interests of the country.” Succinct common sense. But, where is the strong man to be found who will listen to sweet reason and be prepared to govern, or to lead his government “in the best interests of the country?” No, decisions will continue to be made in the best self-interests of those who make the decisions. Then jobs are on the line. The Government see-saw team will really have to be on its toes to maintain its present rather precarious posture. — Yours, etc., LES BOGREN. March 7, 1982.
