Methven Trotting Club
Sir,—What does the Methven Trotting Club do now that the Racing Authority has declined for a second time financial assistance for the new stand? I hope common sense prevails. With only three raceday permits and no hope of being granted any more, to go on would be stupid. With the Government cutting expenditure on health and education the writing is on the wall for the Methven Trotting Club. Supposing there is a change of Government, Mid-Canterbury being a blue ribbon National seat, I think the Methven club would get the message loud and clear to shut up shop. If Methven moved to Ashburton it would be in line for more raceday permits, it would not lose its identity, and would also be able to get financial assistance from the Racing Authority if required. The Racing Authority stopped financial assistance to the Hororata club which has moved to Riccarton. — Yours, etc K. L. BURNS. March 2, 1982.
