Parking ‘shambles’ at port

More effective parking laws may soon be imposed in Lyttelton. Members of the LytteltonBorough Council’s town-plan-ning committee complained at a meeting yesterday of a parking “shambles” in the port’s shopping centre. There were objections to service vehicles double-park-ing outside shops, and shopkeepers parking their vehicles in 30-minute zones for the whole day, committee members said. Some members felt it would be worth while to discuss the problem with a senior Ministry of Transport traffic officer. The committee clerk, Mr G. Broker, said that the council had written to the Standards . Association in Wellington to Seek advice on how to improve parking laws in the borqugh. < The' committee decided to wait fop. the reply, expected soon, before recommending any action.
