Meat factory closes
Sixteen workers at the Hellaby Peach Products, Ltd, factory in Riccarton will lose their jobs when the factory closes today. A subsidiary of R. and W. Hellaby, Ltd, of Auckland, the company will continue to market its meat products from the North Island, while another Hellaby’s subsidiary, the M.M.M. chain, will process some of the meat pro-
ducts formerly produced by Hellaby Peach. The factory was being closed because the volume of business could not, justify the cost of bringing the old plant up to requirements of modern hygiene, said the company’s corporate adviser, Mr J. O. Cook, from Auckland. A redundancy agreement has been reached for the 16 staff.
