Crosby wins Daytona
NZPA-ReuterDaytona Beach. Florida Graeme' Crosby, of New Zealand, rode a Yamaha to victory in the forty-first Daytona 200 motorcycle classic yesterday at a record average speed of 109.130 miles per hour. Crosby started from the fifth grid position and took the-lead-on lap 29 of the 52lap event as quicker riders encountered mechanical problems.
Three American riders, Freddie Spencer, Roberto Pietri and Mike Baldwin, all riding Hondas, finished second, third and fourth respectively with Dale Singleton. twice a winner in earlier classics, fifth. The three-time world champion, Kenny Roberts, riding a Yamaha, duelled with the Honda team-mates, Spencer and Baldwin, in the early laps before suffering engine failure on lap nine.
