Seal killing

Sir,—March'- has now arrived, bringing with it the Canadian spring, which in turn brings in the annual baby seal cull. The force of this annual butchery hit me' when viewing the Saturday night nine qjclock news. We saw brave men armed with clubs and heavy boots approach these defenceless babies, and while their mother watched, they bashed their skulls in. Why? So that a few rich, dehumanised humans can wear this white, soft seal pelt to keep them warm. Imitations obviously are not good enough for their prestige. Be-

cause this senseless slaughter brings in so little revenue for the Canadian Government there is no economical reason for this Government-condoned cruelty to continue. But for ecological, humanitarian and compassionate reasons it must stop now. It is everybody’s responsibility to fight for the seals while there are still seals left to fight for. — Yours, etc., LEONNE WATSON, KEVIN WATSON. March 7, 1982.
