Record crowd at Winchester
A record number of entries and a record attendance were features of the Temuka and Geraldine Agricultural and Pastoral Association's seventvsecond annual show at Winchester on Saturday. The gate takings were also a ‘ record at 52740. compared with 1981's rcord of
The horse and pony sections of the show were outstanding and equestrian events were followed with keen interest, Deborah Gresham won the Pat Gresham Memorial Cup on Salute, a horse owned by her late father. The cup was presented to her by her mother. Mrs Dawn Gresham.
The Hargreaves Cup.for young riders in’ pony clubs went to Julian Bowden, with 52.5 points. Victoria Wall was second, with 49.5 points and Jason Wakelin was third, with 48.5 points. The A. J. Davey Cup for the best girl or boy rider went to Rosalie Robertson and the Turley Cup for the best rider in junior classes was won by Louise Barton on Tessa.
Although the number of entries was down in the livestock sections because of recent drought conditions, the judges said that the standards had remained high and well comparable with the best at other Canterbury shows.
