Methven Trotting Club

Sir,—At a meeting held in the latter half of 1981 at Ashburton Racecourse to discuss the plans of the new allweather track, a member suggested that the Methven Club come in with Ashburton as Methven would be facing the

expenditure of building a new stand. The president of the Methven Club, Mr Ron May, said that, if Methven wanted to, it could put the foundations down tomorrow. At this point, it looks as if Mr May went to the cupboard and it was bare. I agree with Mr Blackburn wholeheartedly. Methven should shift its meetings to Ashburton. As regards losing its identity, neither New Brighton nor Canterbury Park lost theirs when they shifted to Addington. .The Methven Club is only 15 minutes from Ashburton and I will be very disappointed if the racing authority provides money to build a new stand.—Yours, etc.,

A. T. FREEMAN. March 3, 1982.
