Gold price at $US353
PA New York Gold prices tumbled to a two-and-a-half year low in trading here and in London as a leading West German dealer said that was no evidence that the metal would recover in the near future. Gold slipped to about SUS3S3 in early trading after closing at $357 earlier in London, a drop of some $4 from Tuesday and about $4O since the beginning of the
year. ’ The West German metals trader Degussa said in its latest precious metals report that no revival in investor interest in gold could be expected while U.S. interest rates looked set to stay at their present high levels. Degussa said further Soviet gold sales could not be ruled out and as a result more price falls were possible at any time.
