Superannuation benefit

Sir,—National Superannuation has been built, into the economic structure; therefore, rather than change the present formula, it should be a simple exercise to tax the amount on a sliding scale as unearned income. By setting the income to the national average before taxing, the superannuation would alleviate any hardship

on those whose sole income is derived from this source. Any money that those in the higher income bracket would lose could be recouped from tax reform, if the reform was to be based on a percentage. Since it was the National Government that introduced the present system one expects they will bring in a modified scheme fair to all the community — Yours, etc., D. NICOL. March 1, 1982.

Sir—ln reply to A. Delhanty’s letter asking for a 3 per cent cut in National Superannuation, perhaps he would also ask Mr Muldoon to take a 3 per cent cut in his salary, too; or perhaps he does not need the National Superannuation as the only source of income that many people have. — Yours, etc.. K. T. CHILDS. March 1, 1982.
