Methven Trotting Club

Sir,—For thirty years I have not missed a race day at the Methven trots. Full marks to the club for standing its ground to race on its own course. Those who cannot stand one day in the crisp country air are better to stay home and keep their feet dry rather, than moan about what so many other people enjoy. Our country clubs give a •’’wonderful picnic day for families, plus grand racing for those who enjoy a bet. Consider also the horses, which in these days of flint-hard tracks appreciate the grass to race on. If necessary, I for one — and I know many more — would be pleased to sign a petition to the racing authority for the new stand if the permit for building is not granted. Hats off to our country clubs. May they continue to race on their own grounds for as long as there is trotting in New Zealand—Yours, etc.,

(Mrs) J. HILL. March 2, 1982.
