Airlines forget to renew licences in time

PA Wellington Forgetful minds are why three big airlines are seeking new licences for their international services to New Zealand.

Singapore Airlines, Pan American Airways, and UTA French Airlines have all made fresh applications for international air service licences.

The applications are the result of the airlines’ forgetting to file for a renewal of their existing licences within the specified time. Under the International Air Licensing Act, airlines must file for a renewal of their air service licences three months before they expire. They apparently forgot to do this and the Ministry of Trasnport told them they must reapply for their licences.

They have now done this and the Ministry is advertising the air service licence applications. Interested parties have until March 19 to make representations on the* applications to the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Gair). The airlines all seek a new licence which will enable them to continue their existing services. Singapore Airlines wants a licence for flights between New Zealand and Singapore, Pan American for flights between the United States and New Zealand and between Australia and New Zealand, and UTA for flights between Papeete and Rarotonga. The airlines are making applications for hew licences, but it is believed that they are going through the necessary legal procedures and the licences will be granted.
