Select lawyers meet in N.Z.
PA Auckland A group of American lawyers who have been associated with world-famous trials have gathered in Auckland for a working convention.
However celebrated the trials in which the lawyers have appeared, their entry to the International Academy of Trial Lawyers is not automatic.
1 The academy, meeting in , Auckland during a 10-day . stay in New Zealand, is . joined only by invitation and has a world-wide membership restricted to 500. The first New, Zealanders ! accepted into the academy > were received. They were > Mr I. L. McKay, of Wellingf ton; Mr J. H. Wallace, Q.C., • of Auckland; and Mr C. M. Nicholson, Q.C., of Auckland The Minister of Justice (Mr McLay) said in his welcoming address that there were three areas which were of as much concern in New Zealand as in the United States — justice for the “increasingly politically articulate racial and other social minorities,” a move to gain more freedom of government information, and an increase in violent crime.
