Preparations are under way for the construction of a twostorey building on the corner of Manchester and Hereford Street to replace the Norwich Union Life Insurance Society Building which was demolished last weekend. Although the 100-year-old building appeared to be in reasonable condition from the outside, it was pulled down because the parapets were cracked and it needed to be improved substantially to meet Christchurch City Council safety regulations. Plans for the new building have not yet been finished, but it is expected to cost the society about $450,000.
