National club softball titles

PA Wellington The defending champion, Miramar opened the Pan Am national inter-club men’s softball championships at Hataitai Park, Wellington yesterday with two wins. Miramar was not extended to beat Burnside (Canterbury), 3-1, and Southland’s Demons. 5-0. In the 3-1 win over Burnside all Miramar’s runs came in the first innings. Burnside fought well and was rewarded with a run in the

fourth innings its when New Zealand representative, Jimmy Hall, was batted in by his brother Allan. Burnside recovered to beat Pukekbhe 3-1, later in the day. Graham Eades and Chub Tahgaroa scored, helped by errors at the top of the second, and Wayne Poore crossed on a Murray Lanini hit in the following innings. Demons won their first game of the day. 2-1 over Saints (Marlborough) in a 12-innings cliff-hanger.
