Jail term doubled
PA Wellington The Court of Appeal yesterday increased from 18. months to three years a prison sentence imposed on Ross Davies Miller, aged 29, in the High Court .at Christchurch for wounding with intent,io do grievous bodily harm.’ Allowing an appeal by the Solicitor-General, the Court said it was of the opinion the sentence was-.manifestly inadequate.. The maximum sen-, tence permitted under the Crimes Act for the crime to which Miller had pleaded guilty was 14 years imprisonment. The Court =said the sentencing judge Sad recognised the serious nature of the offending in his remarks on sentence when? he said, "that was a horrible, and fied attack ~qn elderly lady, and a bAtal crime;” The Court comprised Mr Justice Cooke (presiding), Mr Justice Holland, and Sir Clifford Richmond.,
