Change of name
Because of global sponsorship of the restructured Davis Cup competition by the Nippon Electric Company, of Japan, the major teams’ tennis event is now referred to as "Davis Cup by N.E.C.” Previously the principal supporter of tennis in New Zealand, BP, lent its name to local ties. Under the new arrangement, the home side will be known as the BP New Zealand team.
