Drinking and driving
Sir,—l would be very interested to know what local
M.P.s and Health Department officials thought of the following: That person(s) who caused injury to themselves or others and were over the legal limit of alcohol consumption, were made to pay for the expense of hospital treatment. This would possibly run into hundreds of dollars per day. I see this as a part of the solutions to (1) the ever-increasing running cost of a hospital, (2) the high bed occupancy of accident-related cases that increase waiting list admissions (3) a strong deterrent to drinking and driving. — Yours, etc.,
H. A. HAMPTON February 12. 1982.
