Better view of ballet?

Eight rows of seats will be removed from the front of the Town Hall auditorium for the Bolshoi ballet's Christchurch performances from April 17 to 20. According to the Town Hall manager, Mr B. P. Connell, when the ballet was last at the Town Hall in 1974 people who had been sitting near the front of the auditorium cmplained that they had been unable to see the dancers' feet.

"Since one of the objects of ballet is to be able to see the dancers’ feet,” said Mr Connell. “we decided to remove the front eight rows, which will involve about 380 seats.” Sightlines would still be restricted, however, for those people sitting at the front when the dancers were at the back of the stage, but people buying tickets for the ballet would be advised of this, and the front rows would be sold last, said Mr Connell.
