Apprentices go back to school
Females outnumber the males at a course for firstyear racing apprentices, which is being held at-Ric-carton this week. Teenagers from Canterbury, Otago, and Southland assembled in Christchurch yesterday evening, and on four days this week will be given an intensive course of instruction in aspects of racing and the care of the thoroughbred. They will also
have daily physical training sessions under the direction of a qualified instructor. At the last count there were 12 females and 10 males enrolled for the course. Under supervision they will ride track work at Riccarton. will attend the Ric-. carton Turf Club's meeting next Thursday, and will attend a dinner and prizegiving ceremony, that evening before dispersing.
