Upper Riccarton in trouble
Christchurch Workingmen's Club surprised by having much the better of its match with Upper Riccarton when the Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association's senior competition continued on Saturday.
Batting first. Upper Riccarton was dismissed for only 108. This was due to the bowling efforts of Ron Provan and Stuart Dunlop who finished with four wickets each. In reply. Christchurch WMC finished its first innings with a lead of 30 runs and then, if that was not enough, had Upper Riccarton one for 12 at stumps. t Harewood also caused a minor upset when, after dimissing Sumner for 97, it reached nine for 181 before declaring. The difference between the two sides lay in the batting of Steve Holden (56) and Phil Blackler (43). Bowling for Harewood, lan Ward had another fine spell with the ball to finish with five wickets.
Hoon Hay could only muster 115 runs off the Southern Districts bowling attack lead by
Gary Baxter, who finished with six wickets for 37. At stumps in reply, Southern Districts was nine for 97 with Baxter having scored 33 of them.
