Publication of doubts held by two different groups in New Zealand industry over closer economic relations (C.E.R.) with Australia led to confusion in ,a report in “The Press” on Tuesday of a statement by the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) that the time for such doubts was past. Last week-end the executive officer of the New Zealand Electrical Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr N. P. Derry) issued a statement saying that important questions on C.E.R. had yet to be answered. Mr Muldoon subsequently said that the Cabinet discussed. what he termed "some curious material on the subject of closer econo-

mic relations with Australia over the week-end.” He also said that the Manufacturers’ Federation dissociated itself completely from the weekend publicity about C.E.R. which it had not authorised. At the time of Mr Muldoon’s comments, “The Press” had printed. Mr Derry’s statement but was not in possession of a memorandum prepared by 1 officers of the-federation, tyr . Muldoon’s comments were mistakenly reported as applying to Mr Derry's statement. That Mr Derry’s statement was fully authorised by his own organisation is accepted by “The Press,” which regrets any inconvenience or annoyance the confusion may have caused.
