N.Z. moto-cross titles
Overseas riders could easily take major honours in this year's New Zealand moto-cross championships being held near Kaiapoi this week-end. Steve Harrison (Britain), who won a championship here last year, has entered his 465 cu cm Suzuki in the open class and the top Australian rider, Jeff Ballard, is also a likely winner in that class.
But New Zealand riders, several of whom have overseas experience, will give these competitors a hard chase. The international veteran. Ivan Miller, who has won numerous New Zealand titles, has every chance in the open class. Wanganui's Craig Coleman in the open class, and Greg Brinck (Raumati). in the 250
cu cm class, both have had reasonable seasons overseas recently and this should help them turn on good enough performances to out-ride some of the other top local riders in these classes. The 30 riders who have qualified for each class are competing for the biggest purse ever put up for motocross. In all $6OOO is at stake in cash and contingencies.
