Influx of soccer talent

The national league teams. Dunedin City and Invercargill Thistle, will be adding to what is already an influx of soccer talent ~ heading for Christchurch this week-end. The two teams have decided to “make a week-end” of their visit to the city to see Hungary play New Zealand on Sunday by playing the Hertz leaguers, Rangers, as well. City will be playing at Rangers Park at 2 p.m. tomorrow. while Thistle will be appearing at the same

venue at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday. The Dunedin side won the Chatham Cup last season while Invercargill, under the guidance of the former Woolston coach, Fred Simpson, is shaping up for its Rothmans league debut. The Rangers coach, lan Marshall, says the matches will give him a good chance to get a closer look at his players and “narrow down" the squad. “It will be a bit of a handful playing both at the

week-end but it's better than playing other local sides who we might meet three or four times a year anyway," he said. Meanwhile, several of Christchurch's other top teams will also be in action at Rangers Park tomorrow as the home club’s annual pre-season tournament kicks off. At 6 p.m. the Hertz league clubs. Western and Shamrock, will play each other, and at 7.30 p.m.. Christchurch Mogal United and New Brighton meet.
