Halfbred fleece wool and fine crossbred lambs’ wool were 2.5 to 3 per cent dearer at yesterday's Christchurch wool sale, according to the official report of the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association. The Wool Board was required to give only limited support to the sale, bidding on 10.7 per cent of the offering and having one per cent sold or passed to it. The sale was of 9889 bales and all had been tested by sample. The competition was widely spread over all fleece, Halfbred and fine crossbred lambs. Principal buyers were Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle and Far East. Compared with the Timaru/Dunedin sale held on February 5 the market was quoted as Halfbred fleece, 2.5 to 3 per cent dearer; fine Halfbred skirtings (necks and pieces), nominally 5 to 7.5 per Cent dearer; Halfbred oddments, firm; crossbred fleece and second shear, sellers’ favour; fine crossbred lambs, up to 2.5 per cent dearer; coarse crossbred lambs, erratic and up to 2.5 per cent cheaper;’ crossbred oddments and skirtings, firm.
