Free bus ride for job-seekers
Unemployed job-seekers referred to an employer by the Department of Labour in Christchurch will be able to travel to and from job interviews on free bus tickets from Monday. The scheme was approved by the Christchurch Transport Board in October last year after the Christchurch Unemployed and Temporary Workers' Union sought free bus travel for all unemployed persons. The scheme will be financed by the board and administered by the Labour Department. A person seeking a job through the department, and who has been referred to a specific employer, will be issued a free return ticket to travel from Cathedral Square to the job interview arid back.
