David Cowper, who is attempting to set a new record for circumnavigating the world against the prevailing winds, arrived in south-west Australia yesterday after five months at sea. Cowper's 12-metre sloop Ocean Bound sailed into the port of Albany early yesterday. After snatching a few hours sleep he was greeted

by his wife. Caroline, and his three-year-old son. Freddie. Cowper is attempting to beat a fellow Briton, Chay Blyth's time of 292 days for a circumnavigation against the prevailing winds. To do this he must return to Plymouth by July 10. If he completes the voyage he will also become the first solo yachtsman to sail both ways’ round the world.
