Capital has hot day
PA Wellington Wellington sweltered yesterday in the hottest day for 87 years: the temperature in the capital peaked at 30.2 degrees in mid-afternoon. It was the highest temperatnre in the capital since
31.1 recorded in 1895, a Meteorological Office spokesman said. Wellingtonians flocked to the beaches, the Basin Reserve, throbbed with the heat, and the cricket, and office workers wiped their ; brows. j But the capital was still i some way behind Methven.
